Crime & Safety
Gun Safety Program at New Lenox Village Hall
The "Be SMART" program is a nonpartisan public education campaign designed to reduce child deaths by educating adults.

From the New Lenox Police Department:
NEW LENOX, IL — Every year in the United States, at least 100 children aged 17 and under die in unintentional shootings, and over 400 die by suicide with a gun. Many of these deaths are entirely preventable with responsible gun safety and storage. The “Be SMART” program is a nonpartisan public education campaign designed to reduce child deaths by educating adults — parents, grandparents and others - in how to help prevent these deaths by using 5 simple strategies:
- Secure all guns in your home and vehicles
- Model responsible behavior around guns
- Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes
- Recognize the risks of teen suicide
- Tell your peers to “Be SMART”
Please join us for this “Be SMART” presentation at 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the New Lenox Village Hall. To reserve you seat(s), please RSVP to Daniel Martin, Public Safety Division Chief, New Lenox Police Department, (815) 462-6128 or dmartin@newlenox.net.
