Biggest Snowfall of the Season Headed Our Way

Enjoy the next few hours because as much as a foot of snow could drop on parts of the Chicago area tonight and tomorrow.

We could see 6, 8, maybe even 12 inches of snow this weekend. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Chicago area Saturday night through Sunday evening. If you live in the darker purple area of the map graphic, you could be in for a lot of shoveling or snowblowing.

“There’s nothing to suggest it’s not happening,” National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro told DNAinfo Chicago Saturday morning. “It’s not going to miss us like the heaviest snows missed New York City the other day.”

As far as temps go, expect highs Saturday mid to upper 30s. Lows Sunday lower 20s to lower 30s. Highs Sunday mid-20s to lower 30s. Lows Monday 5 to 13 degrees.”

Possible shifts in the storm track on Saturday will determine where the heaviest snow will fall.

Snow-covered roads will make travel difficult. Strong northeast winds will develop Sunday afternoon and continue into Sunday evening leading to blowing and drifting snow.

“If it really maximizes, it could be a bigger storm than we even had last year,” Castro said. “This is going to be a long duration snow and produce significant amount when it’s all done.”
