Lucky Ducks: Firefighters Pluck Ducklings From Drain, Reunite With Mom

The ducklings are back with their mom after a few scary minutes Thursday morning.

NEW LENOX, IL — A feathered family is reunited and safe, after New Lenox firefighters rescued half a dozen ducklings who had fallen into a drain outside a bank Thursday morning.

An employee witnessed the ducklings in distress, and ran to the fire department to ask for help in saving them.

"They all came right over and sprung into action," said Stacy Nelson, an employee at Bank of America, 251 E Maple St. "The fire department was able to reunite the mama with her babies with such care and compassion. What a heart-warming moment!"

Photos captured a firefighter laid out on the pavement, reaching into the drain to bring them to safety. And later, a firefighter is seen following one of the little ones as it waddled back to its mother.

Another duckling also ended up in an unlikely spot.

"We also found one in the dumpster!" the fire district wrote. "Not sure how that little one got in there, but they are back safe with mom."
