LW Central's Aaron Raatjes Named Golden Apple Finalist
Aaron Raatjes, a German teacher at Lincoln-Way Central High School, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Golden Apple award.

NEW LENOX, IL — Aaron Raatjes, a German teacher at Lincoln-Way Central High School, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching award.
He is among 32 finalists in Illinois chosen from a pool of 550 contenders.
"A nomination for the Golden Apple is an incredible honor, simply because there are thousands of hard-working teachers in the state of Illinois deserving of this award,” said Aaron Raatjes in a statement. “I love working with my students, and I am both humbled and excited to be a finalist."

The award honors teachers for their roles in having "lasting, positive effects on students’ lives and for helping to build stronger communities," according to the organization that distributes the awards. Teachers also mush demonstrate through practice and results "significant, positive impact" on student growth and learning. Fellow educators, students, parents and community members nominate teachers for the awards.
Winners of the 2019 Golden Apple Award will be notified in the spring with surprise visits at their schools.
