Man Dead In Apparent Suicide At New Lenox Gas Station ID'd: Coroner
Police were on the scene of the apparent suicide outside a Circle K gas station Sunday afternoon.
NEW LENOX, IL — A driver found dead in a car outside a New Lenox gas station Sunday has been identified as a 25-year-old Chicago Heights man.
Robert Craig Jr. was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. Sunday outside a Circle K gas station in the 400 block of Nelson Road, the Will County Coroner's Office said.
Police said they were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Sunday, for a report of a car parked in the same spot overnight and a male driver who appeared to be asleep. Officers on-scene attempted to awaken the driver and noticed a handgun in his lap, according to police reports. Officers forced entry into the locked car and discovered the driver dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police reports.

Evidence gathered at the scene showed that no one entered or exited the vehicle after it arrived and parked at the gas station, police said.
The scene was secured and there was no additional threat or danger to the community, police said.

“Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family,” New Lenox Police Chief Louis Alessandrini said Sunday.
