New Lenox Karate Studio Owner Charged With Felony Aggravated Battery

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox business owner faces a felony charge of aggravated battery and two counts of domestic battery, following a Feb. 11 encounter with a woman at a New Lenox residence.

Police were called Feb. 11 after a woman told police a man had pushed her down inside her home, according to police reports.

The man, later identified as Anthony D'Angelo, 55, had left the scene and was later found at a building in the 13900 block of Illinois Highway, according to New Lenox police reports. D'Angelo is listed in the Illinois business registry as the owner of Tranquil Cloud Temple and Karate, 13959 E. Illinois Hwy in New Lenox. According to the business' website, it's a nonprofit that aims to "teach others a way of living that enhances the body, mind, and spirit in order to achieve balance within one’s own life."

D'Angelo was arrested on Feb. 11 and taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He was granted pre-trial release on Feb. 13. The woman was also granted an emergency order of protection against D'Angelo on Feb. 13, according to court records.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, a grand jury indicted him on charges of felony aggravated battery of a victim over 60 years old, and two counts of domestic battery.

He remains free on the condition that he not contact the victim or be near her residence, according to court documents.

His next court date is set for Feb. 27.
