New Lenox Plans 9/11 Anniversary Events
The plans include a memorial ceremony and a benefit walk to raise awareness of suicide among veterans.
NEW LENOX, IL — The Village of New Lenox we will hold a memorial ceremony at 8 a.m. Sept. 11 in the Village Commons to honor those that lost their lives on 9/11, according to a Facebook post by New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the day four terrorist attacks killed approximately 3,000 people, according to Britannica's website.
Baldermann asked residents to "[W]ear blue or red to honor our fallen police officers and fire fighters that made the ultimate sacrifice that day, and those who continue to risk their lives for us every day. Let's fill the Commons grass with a sea of blue and red to show our support for first responders."

"Every day approximately 22 veterans commit suicide," Baldermann wrote. "All proceeds from this event benefit [The Headstrong Project]. If you can't walk or run in the event, please consider donating to help our veterans that are struggling."
