NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox police have closed in on two suspects in a March 2023 burglary at a jewelry store.

Late last month, police secured arrest warrants for Amarrion Ash, 18, of Oak Lawn, and Marquis Thomas, 23, of Calumet City, in connection to the March 1 break-in at Cornerstone Jewelry, 1876 E. Lincoln Highway. The same two are believed tied to other burglaries just over a week later, one at a jewelry store in Frankfort and another at a cell phone store in Calumet City.

Police in the overnight hours March 1 were called to the scene in New Lenox, where the front glass door had been shattered by a brick, and display cases broken inside. Security cameras captured three suspects exiting a car, while a fourth sat in wait outside.

Three suspects pillaged the display cases before fleeing in their waiting getaway car, a gray, four-door Infiniti, police said.

During the investigation of this incident, detectives learned the same vehicle was involved in multiple smash-and-grab style burglaries in other Chicago suburbs, including one at a jewelry store in Frankfort on March 9, and a cell phone store burglary in Calumet City March 10.

Calumet City police contacted New Lenox police after the March 10 break-in. One suspect, identified as Ash, was found with several pieces of jewelry from the Frankfort and New Lenox stores.

New Lenox police continue to work on identifying the remaining offenders.

The Will County and Cook County Sheriff’s departments are currently assisting the New Lenox Police Department in serving the arrest warrants for Ash and Thomas.

Charges for Ash include two counts of burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property. Thomas' charges include one count of burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property. Bond for the warrants obtained was set at $150,000 each.

"This investigation and the warrants obtained were the result of a joint effort between the Frankfort Police Department, the Calumet City Police Department, and the New Lenox Police Department," police said.

The suspects were announced in the March burglary as New Lenox police investigate another smash-and-grab that happened May 30 at Zembar Jewelers. That burglary was also caught on surveillance camera.
