Public Meeting Scheduled For Roundabout Project
The meeting is scheduled to get residents' feedback and provide information on the roundabout plan at the Cedar Road and Haven intersection.
NEW LENOX, IL — The Village of New Lenox is scheduled to hold a public information meeting from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the New Lenox Village Hall about a planned roundabout at the Cedar Road and Haven intersections.
The intersection experiences heavy traffic, accidents and mobility issues for motorists and pedestrians, according to a new release sent by the Village. The Village is nearing completion of the Phase I Engineering Study of the roundabout project, according to the release. The study identified the needs and issues, came up with possible solutions, and chose a roundabout as the best solution, according to the release.
The projected cost of the roundabout is approximately $2.7 million, with some of the cost to be picked up by federal funding, according to the release.

In order to complete the construction as quickly as possible, the Village is planning a full closure of the intersection for approximately three months, according to the release. Actual construction, Phase III of the plan, would have a target date to begin in 2023. Cedar Road would be cut off between U.S. Route 30 and Illinois Highway, while Have Avenue would be shut down between Vine Street and Prairie Road.
The Village said that approximately 12,300 vehicles per day travel through the intersection; by 2050, that number is projected to increase to 18,000.
