Resident Escapes House Fire With Minor Injuries: NLFPD

The fire happened just after 2 p.m. in the 1700 block of Tomahawk Ridge.

NEW LENOX, IL — A homeowner made it out with only minor injuries during a house fire in New Lenox Sunday afternoon.

New Lenox firefighters were called just after 2 p.m. to a home in the 1700 block of Tomahawk Ridge for a report of a structure fire. Responding crews found a two-story, single-family residence with smoke coming from the rear. Crews reported a working fire in the kitchen, that had reportedly spread to the enclosed porch in the rear of the building.

The resident was out of the home prior to crews arriving, and refused care for minor injuries they sustained while exiting. The American Red Cross came in to assist the homeowner

The fire was under control within 40 minutes of crews' arrival. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the New Lenox Fire Stations to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include East Joliet Fire Protection District, Manhattan Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, Mokena Fire Protection District, Homer Fire Protection District, Orland Fire Protection District, Wilmington Fire Protection District, Troy Fire Protection District, and Northwest Homer Fire Protection District.
