New Lenox police and Will County Sheriff's officers faced a six-hour standoff Monday with an armed man who they believed wanted to take his own life.


Oak Lawn Baby Dies, Father Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse

An eight-week-old baby died Sunday morning in what is believed to be a case of shaken baby syndrome. The father, Edward Janiszewski, 37, of Oak Lawn, is charged with aggravated battery to a child, a class X felony. More charges may be forthcoming.

Wind Creek Breaks Ground On 70,000 Square Foot South Suburban Casino

Officials from the Wind Creek Hospitality Group broke ground on the southland's first casino last week, according to officials.

The casino is slated to open in 2023, with construction delayed almost a year due to COVID-19 supply chain issues and planning setbacks. Representatives from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians were present at the groundbreaking.

South Suburban Residents Tied To Life Insurance Scheme: Feds

An elaborate life insurance scam nabbed 23 people that spanned multiple states, including several residents from the south suburbs, announced John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. The defendants are accused of participating in a fraud scheme through which they swindled ten life insurance carriers out of at least $26 million in fraudulent benefits.
