Ticket Sale Date Set For Smokey Robinson At New Lenox Commons

Smokey Robinson will be the first act in the Village's newly named Summer Concert Series. New Lenox residents can purchase tickets soon.

NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann on Thursday announced the start of sales for the first show in the Village's Summer Concert Series, formerly known as Triple Play.

The first act set to take the stage is Motown legend Smokey Robinson; the show is set for June 1. Tickets go on sale April 8, Baldermann said. Tickets can be purchased beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the upstairs window of New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway. Tickets are $60 each.

Tickets purchased will be valid only for the June 1 show. Tickets for each show will be sold separately—a change from the prior 15 years of Triple Play's existence. Futures concerts and dates will be announced as soon as they are confirmed, Baldermann said.

The series will no longer be called Triple Play, Baldermann said, as the number of acts each year might change. The new name leaves room for that.

The series' reputation precedes it, Baldermann said, making booking talent easy, and also enabling the Village to offer ticket sales for individual shows.

"Because of our reputation in the business," Baldermann said, "we are able to attract some legendary artists this year, and each show will be sold separately."

Baldermann proactively braced for the crowd's reaction to a higher ticket price.

"... compared to what these artists are getting in other venues," he said, "we continue to have the best deal in music entertainment (not to mention free parking and $5 beer)!"
