UPDATE: Two Injured in Semi-vs.-Car Crash on I-80 at Route 30

Two people were injured in a semi-truck-car crash on Interstate 80 at Route 30. The two were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Tuesday--9:40 p.m.

Illinois State Police Sgt. Jeff Padilla said the driver of the semi-truck had passed out at the wheel after having taken some medication. He was in the right lane of traffic and drifted across all four lanes, clipping the front-end of the SUV.

The trailer went all the way left into the wire median, where it came to a stop. The SUV rolled into the right ditch.

Both drivers received non-life threatening injuries, according to Padilla.

The semi-truck driver was issued a ticked for improper lane use. The identities of the two were not released.

Illinois State Police are investigating a semi-truck-car crash about 6:30 p.m. today on Interstate 80 at Route 30 in New Lenox.

ISP Sgt. Jeff Padilla reported that two people were injured as a result of the crash. They were transported to Silver Cross Hospital by the New Lenox Fire Protection District.

The passenger vehicle rolled over on the highway.  

Police say the accident occurred in the westbound lane. One lane remains closed.

The eastbound lanes are open.
