Sgt. Steve Byland suggests revelers arrange for a designated driver, if drinking alcohol is on the agenda. "Be responsible or risk a DUI", he said.

St. Patrick's Day Tips and Reminders:

  • Remember, you can be held liable and prosecuted if someone you serve is involved in a drunken driving crash.
  • Make sure all of your guests designate a sober driver in advance or help arrange ride-sharing with a sober driver.
  • Serve food and include several non-alcoholic beverages at the party.
  • Keep phone numbers of local cab companies handy and take keys away from anyone who is drinking.
  • Make arrangements for guests who do not have a ride to stay overnight.
  • Always buckle up - it is still your best defense against a drunk driver.

The St. Patrick's Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through IDOT's Division of Traffic Safety.
