The Stardust Big Band (is that the perfect name for a big band, or what?) playsย Count Basie, bossa nova and even "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." At the Morton Grove Library's After Dark series, 7 p.m.ย Friday.ย- Want to get artisan-crafted gifts for friends for the holidays? Go to theย Morton Grove Farmer's Market Winter Market Saturday,ย 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Civic Center, 6140 Dempster. Plan on eating, too, there's good food.ย
- Pay $14 for a handcrafted bowl filled with a simple meal of soup and bread, and you get to keep the artsy bowl--and the proceeds go to help the hungry around the world. It's called theย Empty Bowls fundraiser, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.ย Last year, it raised more than $30,000 to feed the hungry.ย
