Man Charged In Fatal Shooting At Home In Niles

Niles police responded to the shooting in the 8400 block of Greenwood Avenue around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday.

NILES, IL — Authorities have charged a man in connection with Thursday's fatal shooting at a home in Niles.

Markus G. Horenberger, 52, of Glenview, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter following the shooting, the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office said in a statement. He was held in jail pending a detention hearing on Saturday.

At around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, Niles police received a call about a man with a gun and shots fired at a home in the 8400 block of Greenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, police found a man who had been shot, and he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, investigators determined Horenberger was involved in the shooting, and the incident appeared to be isolated between him and the victim.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Niles Police Department's Investigations Division with the assistance of the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force.
