“Navigating cognitive changes can be challenging, but you don’t need to do it alone,” explained Cynthia Phon, LCSW, who oversees North Shore Senior Center's (NSSC) memory programs. "Mind Matters is more than just a program--it's a community rooted in connection, belonging, and enhancing everyday life."

Mind Matters takes place on Tuesdays at NSSC from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is a space where participants can build meaningful relationships while engaging in activities that energize both mind and body. Each session brings together the perfect blend of education, support, and creativity.

- Dementia Education & Cognitive Exercises—participants gain valuable insights into enhancing well-being and maximizing brain health through cognitive exercises tailored to their unique needs
- Discussion & Support Group—this welcoming space allows participants to socialize with peers, share their experiences, and learn new strategies for navigating memory loss
- Movement & Wellness—gentle physical exercises and mindfulness practices are explored to reinforce the vital mind-body connection, ensuring holistic wellness
- Creative Arts—participants are encouraged to dive into various forms of creative expression, from art and music to dance, providing an outlet for self-expression and joy

Mind Matters goes beyond providing support in the present—it empowers participants and their families to plan for the future with confidence. Whether it’s learning how to adapt daily routines or preparing for what lies ahead, Mind Matters equips participants with the knowledge and tools to manage their path forward.
Each participant undergoes an assessment to ensure Mind Matters is the right fit.
"We believe that everyone deserves a space to connect, thrive, and find joy in every day," Phon said. "Between Mind Matters and our Day Program, which is geared toward participants who need more supervision, we can help you find the right fit for where you are at in your journey."
