Pam Leffler, who has served as the Morton Grove Public Library director for about a year and a half, is departing to become director of the St. Charles Public Library, she said.
Leffer's tenure marked a period of calm that followed a boisterous period of dissent and turnover of members of the library board, and even the removal of the previous library director.
"My time at the Morton Grove Public Library has been both exciting and challenging, and Iโve been honored and humbled to work with a truly dedicated, capable, and supportive staff," Leffer said.
"Iโm proud of the changes weโve implemented throughout the library to improve service to the community, and it is my hope that the board and staff can continue building on this to best serve the residents of Morton Grove."
Library Board President Mark Albers issued a statement praising Leffler as having done a tremendous job keeping library offerings up to the highest quality.
"She leaves us with numerous improvements, superior programming, a dedicated staff and wonderful volunteers; all without the need to increase the budget (saving our hard-working residents any additional taxation)," he said.
Leffler's last day will be Dec. 20. The St. Charles Library will be closer to her home in West Chicago, which Albers said would allow her to spend more time with her family. ย
