According to CPD reports reviewed by CWB Chicago, Chávez was behind a red pickup truck outfitted with a tow conversion kit when the truck rear-ended another vehicle, one report said. As the first car took off, heading east on Roosevelt, the tow truck backed into Chávez’s Tahoe, a CPD officer reported, citing video evidence.
About a minute later, Chávez was in front of the tow truck as the vehicles entered the 100 block of West Roosevelt, a second report stated. Again citing video evidence, an officer said the truck
rear-ended Chávez’s Tahoe, causing the Tahoe to swerve and strike a utility pole and the side of a building at 150 West Roosevelt.
