NORTHBROOK, IL — Wescott School will soon have a new principal, one familiar with the North Shore in his current role. Dr. Anthony "Tony" Candela was unanimously approved by the board of education last month to begin in the position in July.

Candela currently serves as principal of Indian Trail Elementary School in North Shore School District 112, which encompasses Highland Park, Highwood and Fort Sheridan. Candela's 16 years in education include eight years in administration, according to the district.

"Dr. Candela has a demonstrated track record of leading complex change while maintaining stability," District 30 Superintendent Dr. Emily K. Tammaru said. "He possesses the precise blend of instructional expertise, operational acumen, and relational leadership our community desires."

The district said a comprehensive search process involved input from staff, students and parents. Candela emerged as the candidate who most authentically embodies the "student-centered, collaborative leader" requested by the District 30 community.

During his tenure in District 112, Candela successfully orchestrated the renovation, relocation, and grand opening of two different schools – Indian Trail Elementary and Edgewood Middle School – while managing construction logistics and ensuring instructional readiness. The district said he also chaired major curriculum adoptions in mathematics and English language arts, while co-designing a districtwide teacher evaluation model to improve instruction.
