Nonprofit and Church Team Up for Neighborhood Greatness

In a mutually-beneficial partnership between Gateway to Learning and Lincoln Square's Community Christian Church, everyone's a winner.

Two Lincoln Square groups have joined forces to both of their missions stronger.

The Community Christian Church of Lincoln Square and Gatway to Learning—a training center for adults with disabilities—are giving each other what they need most.

For the church, the partnership means having a place to worship. Its members are using the nonprofit's gymnasium for services.

Gateway to Learning gets to take advantage of the church's do-good attitude.

Volunteers from the church repainted the parking lot fence, landscaped and will be renovating the entrance.

Services have already started Sundays mornings at Gateway to Learning, with a grand opening celebration slated for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 20.

"Our new partnership will open up exciting opportunities for Gateway and allow the church to make a positive contribution to their community—“giving back” is a big part of what Christian Community Church strives to do in Lincoln Square," said Kathleen Wilson, the development specialist at Gateway to Learning.

The church leaves its previous home at Chappell Elementary, where congregants had been meeting since March 2011.
