Approval of red light cameras confounds Oak Brook officials
Cameras are set to be installed just inside the boundary of neighboring Oak Brook Terrace.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has issued a permit for Oakbrook Terrace to install red light cameras at the intersection of Route 83 and 22nd Street, according to The Doings Oak Brook.
Oak Brook Village President Gopal Lalmalani and Village Manager Alex Ginex expressed suspicion after IDOT rejected Oakbrook Terrace's application, but then reversed the decision less than two months later. Ginex said the application for the permit required traffic data through 2017.
An IDOT representative said the video evidence of red light violations submitted by Oakbrook Terrace was sufficient.

Oak Brook officials are concerned that the cameras will hamper local businesses. They are considering installing signs warning of the cameras, which are scheduled to be installed in the next six months.
