The Park District expects the burn to take place over two days between December 2nd and 9th, and between the hours of 7am and 4pm . While the burn is underway, you may see and smell smoke in and around the Dean Nature Sanctuary. The burn is conducted by a team of licensed prescribed burn contractors who are on site before, during, and after the burn is complete. Controlled burns are necessary for the health and development of native prairie habitats like those found at the Dean Nature Sanctuary. Without burns, invasive trees, shrubs, and weeds invade local habitats and shade out native plants.
