Attack By 4 Dogs Kills Woman, 70, In Country Club Hills

A 70-year-old woman died Wednesday after police said she was attacked by her four dogs. Police shot and killed one of the dogs.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, IL — A senior citizen died after a dog attack near 167th and Pulaski in Country Club Hills, according to information from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and later confirmed by the Country Club Hills Police Department. Katie Amos, 70, died at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest at 11:03 a.m. Wednesday.

She died of multiple injuries as the result of a dog attack, and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.

Country Club Hills police said Amos died after being attacked by four dogs around 10:35 a.m. that day in her driveway in the 3900 block of West 167th Place. Officers who responded had to fire their guns to ward off the dogs and enter the area behind a closed gate where Amos was found, police said.

One of the dogs was shot and killed by the officer while the other three fled the driveway into a neighbor's yard.

Cook County Animal Control took possession of the four dogs, which police said all belonged to Amos and lived at the location where the attack occurred.
