OAK LAWN, IL — Where did the summer go? There are just a few short weeks until students head back to school this month. Back to school planning has already begun in Oak Lawn-Hometown Dist. 123 with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2025-2026 school year.

The first day of school for Dist. 123 students will be a half-day Aug. 20 for K-8 students. Early dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. We also suggest that you check the Dist. 123 calendar and your child’s school calendar (Covington, Sward, Hannum, Kolmar, Hometown and Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School) for conferences, open houses, meetings, exams, early dismissals, athletic and other school events.

Aug. 20 - First day for K-8, early dismissal 11:30 a.m.
Sept. 1 - Labor Day, off
Oct. 13 - Indigenous People Day, off
Oct. 16 - Family conferences, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., early dismissal for students 11:30 a.m.
Oct. 17 - No school, family conferences 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Nov. 24 to Nov. 28 - Thanksgiving break
Dec. 1 - Classes resume
Dec. 19 to Jan. 4 - Winter Break
Jan. 5 - School resumes
Jan. 19 - Federal holiday, off
Feb. 16 - Federal holiday, off
Feb. 19 - Early dismissal, 11:30 a.m.; family conferences 5 to 8 p.m.
Feb. 20 - No school, family conferences
March 17 - Teachers Institute Day, Illinois Primary Election, no school
March 20 - No school (board declared holiday)
March 23 to March 27 - Spring break, no school
April 3 - No school (board declared holiday)
April 6 - No school (board declared holiday)
May 25 - Memorial Day
June 3 - Graduation OLHMS
June 4 - Last day of school, 11:30 a.m. early dismissal
June 5 to June 11 - Emergency makeup days (if needed)
June 19 - Federal holiday
