OAK LAWN, IL — Where did the summer go? There are just a few short weeks of summer left, until students head back to school this month.

Back-to-school planning has already begun in Ridgeland Dist. 122 with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2025-2025 school year.

The first day of school for Dist. 122 students will be Aug. 15, with a half-day from 8:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for grades K-5; and 8:15 to 11:30 a.m. for middle school students, grades 6-8.
The first day of preschool is Aug. 20.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. We also suggest that you check the Dist. 122 calendar and your child’s school calendar (Columbus-Manor, Harnew, Kolb, Lieb and Simmons Middle School) for conferences, open houses, meetings, exams, early dismissals, athletic and other school events.

Here's a look at some dates to know for the 24-25 school year:

Aug. 15 -The first day of school will be a half-day from 8:50 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for grades 1-5; and 8:15 to 11:30 a.m. for middle school students, grades 6-8.
Aug. 18-Aug. 19 - Preschool parent/child orientation
Aug. 20 - First day of preschool
Sept. 1 - Labor Day, no school
Oct. 9 - Full day of student attendance; parent-teacher conferences start at 5 p.m.
Oct. 10 - Parent-teacher conferences 9 a.m. to noon, no school
Oct. 13 - Columbus Day, no school
Oct. 31 - Teacher Institute, no student attendance
Nov. 14 -End of first term, no school
Nov. 24-Nov. 25 - Preschool parent-teacher conferences; no school for preschool only.
Nov. 26 - Nov. 28 - Thanksgiving Break
Dec. 1 - Classes resume
Dec. 22-Jan. 2 - Winter Break
Jan. 5 - School resumes
Jan. 19 - Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, no school
Feb. 16 - Presidents Day, no school
March 17 - Illinois Primary Election, no school
March 20 - March 27 - Spring Break
March 30 - School resumes
April 3 and April 6 – Board declared holiday
May 22 - Last day of preschool
May 25 - Memorial Day, no school
May 26 - Parent-teacher preschool conferences
May 27 - No school
May 28 - Parent-teacher preschool conferences
May 29 - Last day of school, K-7, elementary 8:50 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.; and 8:15 to 11:35 a.m.
June 1-5 - Emergency days, if needed
