Local Filmmakers Launch Campaign for a horror Series The Red Huntress
Episode 3 in production now—local creators call on the community to help bring the next chapter to life

OAK LAWN, IL — Something dark, bold, and imaginative is unfolding right here in the south suburbs—and it’s not just on screen.
A team of passionate local filmmakers is deep in production on The Red Huntress, a supernatural action-fantasy web series created and filmed in Oak Lawn, Hickory Hills, and the surrounding areas. With two episodes already released, production underway on Episode 3, and a dedicated creative team behind it, the series has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for its fourth chapter—and they’re inviting the community to be a part of the journey.
“We’re building something ambitious from the ground up,” says Assistant Director Mackenzie Brodzinski, who’s been helping lead the production since its early stages. “It’s adventurous and spine-tingling, that will leave you wanting more, and completely independent. We’re not backed by a studio—we’re powered by passion, storytelling, and local support.”

A Story of Mystery, Monsters, and a Young Woman Against the Odds
Set in a fictional cursed village during the late 1800s, The Red Huntress follows Alice Strawingberg, a young woman struggling with the mysterious deaths of her parents. As terrifying creatures begin to appear and whispers of a deadly curse spread, Alice takes matters into her own hands—hiding her heroic deeds from the very villagers who believe she’s a witch.

“Alice is strong, smart, and haunted,” says Brodzinski. “She’s navigating grief, danger, and suspicion in a world that wants to see her fall. It’s a story about survival and defiance, and it’s filled with suspense, lore, and unexpected twists.”
The series is planned as a 10-episode arc and is being filmed with a local cast, crew, and locations, including woods, cabins, and interiors transformed into old-world sets. Despite the production challenges, the team has already released two polished episodes, both available for free on YouTube, but soon will be moving to Tubi.
Community Perks and Participation
To fund Episode 4, the team has turned to Indiegogo, a crowdfunding platform, offering supporters a chance to not only back the project financially but to actually take part in its creation.
“We have some really fun and unique perks,” says Brodzinski. “People can lend their scream to top off a creepy scene (The Dream Scream), be in the scene as Dr. Charles performs surgery on you (Mad Scientist), or even design a creature that appears in the series (Create a Monster). It’s a great way to make local supporters feel truly part of this world we’re building.”
The campaign is live now and runs through May 10th, 2025. If you want to support, you will gain access to behind-the-scenes content on your Facebook page, and donors will receive shoutouts in the credits.
