Los Lobos To Perform At St. Germaine Cinco De Mayo Celebration

OAK LAWN, IL — Four-time Grammy winner Los Lobos is coming to Oak Lawn on Saturday, May 4 for a vibrant Cinco De Mayo Celebration. – Cinco de Mayo Eve – or a vibrant Cinco De Mayo Celebration on Saturday, May 4th. General admission tickets are still available.

The show starts at 7 p.m. in the St. Germaine Activity Center, 9711 S. Kolin Ave., Oak Lawn. Doors open at 6 p.m. Joining Los Lobos this year is a special performance by the Mother McAuley Mariachi Club.

This is the third time the Oak Lawn parish has welcomed the internationally acclaimed Mexican-American rock band. Los Lobos gained fame in 1987 when they recorded a hit cover of Ritchie Valens’ La Bamba, featured in the similarly named biopic about the late singer, who, in 1959, died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson.

The multi-faceted band blends rock, soul, punk, blues and Tex Mex along with traditional Mexican folk music. The band has won four Grammys and was nominated in 2016 for the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame (they didn’t make it). Los Lobos’ most recent album “Native Sons,” released in 2021, has also drawn critical acclaim.

Our Lady at St. Germaine parishioner Ernie Pedroza, who is helping organize the benefit, said the planning committee is looking at possible opening bands and other surprises. Proceeds will go the parish.

"This is Los Lobos' third time headlining a benefit for our parish. They have a great time playing here," Pedroza said. "We're offering a quality night out. The last few shows have sold out so we recommend getting tickets now."
