As Thanksgiving approaches, Nicor Gas is proud to continue its tradition of serving communities across Northern Illinois with complimentary groceries and essential resources. Last week, the Nicor Gas team visited Worth, Illinois, where they distributed nearly 6,000 pounds of frozen food, dry goods and fresh produce to more than 250 local families. In addition to the food distribution, 240 free water-saving and weatherization kits were also handed out.

The resource fair provided attendees with valuable information on natural gas safety, careers in the energy sector and energy-saving tips. Participants also had the opportunity to receive on-site bill assistance, ensuring they are better equipped to manage their utility expenses.

In Illinois, nearly 1.5 million people live at or below the poverty level, representing more than 12% of the state's population. Many of these families face challenges in accessing basic necessities such as heating, food, housing, and medical assistance, particularly during the winter months. Nicor Gas remains committed to supporting its 2.3 million customers across more than 650 communities by providing the resources they need to thrive.

This year, Nicor Gas anticipates helping nearly 4,500 families through its produce stands and grocery resource fair events. These initiatives are part of the company's broader effort to ensure that families in need have access to essential support.
