Oak Lawn Parent-Teacher League President 'Has A Heart For Others'
Oak Lawn resident Christine Gabrielse is being recognized as a community hero for her selfless volunteer work with local students.
OAK LAWN, IL — Without community leaders, Oak Lawn wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.
Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.
This submission comes from Bethany Wendt, an Oak Lawn reader who nominated Christine Gabrielse.

What does this community leader do?
She is responsible for coordinating the parent-teacher league. She goes far beyond that role. She creates bright breakfast baskets for students, coordinates many community building social events, and promotes reading through lots of fun costumes (my favorite had to be the squirrel or the princess). She makes sure that school is a place of hospitality.
Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?
Chris does all of the things she does without question. She sees a need and gets it done. She's humble. She takes initiative.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?
She has a heart for others. She's a great example of what it means to love your neighbor and has a servant's heart.
