St. Laurence High School On Remote Learning After SUV Crashes In Building

St. Laurence High School officials said the driver was not a student or anyone associated with the school.

BURBANK, IL — Students at St. Laurence High School in Burbank are on remote learning for the remainder of the week, after a vehicle crashed into their school building Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:35 p.m., Burbank police responded to a single-vehicle accident at the high school at 5556 W. 77th St. When officers arrived, they discovered that a vehicle had crashed into a section of the building.

News footage showed a red SUV crashed into the side of a classroom, causing significant damage to the brick wall.

School officials said that no students, faculty, or staff were injured in the accident, as it occurred after school ended while nobody was in the affected classroom.

“Emergency responders arrived quickly to assist, and our thoughts and prayers are with the driver involved,” said Mike Madera in a statement, vice president of enrollment and communications for St. Laurence. “The driver was not a student or anyone associated with St. Laurence.”

Out of an abundance of caution, students will be on remote learning for the remainder of the week as a precaution, “and to allow time for safety assessments and necessary repairs to the affected area”

“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution, as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” Madera said.

Patch has reached out to Burbank police for further comment.
