Condo Owner Forced Into Bathroom At Gunpoint While Worth Man Robbed His Home: OLPD

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police used drones ton help locate a man accused of burglarizing a condominium owner's residence at gunpoint late Sunday afternoon. Demarkus Ross, of Worth, is charged with home invasion with a firearm, kidnapping while armed with a firearm, and armed robbery, all class X felonies.

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oak Lawn police responded to a burglary in progress at a condominium building in the 10900 block of South Keating Avenue. The caller said a man had tried to open her window and then ran away when he saw her.

While police were interviewing the woman, another resident from the same building approached police to say he had just been robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a mask.

The second condo owner told officers that the man entered his unit, forced him into the bathroom, and then tried to flee with the stolen items in the condo owner’s car, police said.

An officer on scene spotted a man matching the description given by both condo owners. The officer chased the man into the building, later identified by police as Ross, but lost sight of him.

According to police, Ross was found with jewelry and other items stolen from the condo, along with the condo owner’s car keys.

Ross’s last known address is in the 7200 block of West 111th St., Worth, has previous arrests for theft, criminal trespass and resisting arrest. Ross was to appear for a pre-detention hearing Monday afternoon at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
