'Mock Walls' Show Height of Potential Sound Walls Along I-290 in Oak Park

Residents along the expressway will vote to decide if sound walls will be installed.

The Village of Oak Park has installed temporary fencing in two places along Interstate-290 to give residents a visual representation of sound walls that could be installed.

The ”mock walls,” each about 15 feet tall and 20 feet wide, were installed at Wenonah Avenue and Harrison Street, and Taylor Avenue and Garfield Street, according to the village.

The potential for real walls comes with the Illinois Department of Transportation‘s Eisenhower Expressway reconstruction project.

Oak Park residents who live along the expressway can vote to decide if the sound walls will be installed to block noise from I-290.

Ballots were mailed out earlier this month, according to the Chicago Tribune, and the results could be revealed in December.
