Oak Park Police Reports: Car Burglary, Theft, Property Damage
Oak Park police reported crimes from Sept. 18 to 21.

The following information is from the Oak Park Police Department.
Someone entered a black Pontiac Grand Am on Sept. 17 in the 300 block of South Grove through the unlocked driver’s door. The car burglar reportedly took a black/gold Michael Kors purse containing a brown Louis Vuitton wallet, cash and coins and an Illinois driver’s license, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss is $844.
Someone entered a garage between Sept. 17 and 18 in the 600 block of North Ridgeland through a unlocked service door, according to Oak Park police. The offender took a black/green Trek-Marlin 6 bicycle valued at $700.

Someone removed a unlocked silver men’s Mongoose bicycle Sept. 18 from outside the entrance of a gas station in the 500 block of South Austing, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss is $120.
Someone entered a white Dodge Grand Caravan on Sept. 18 in the 1100 block of South Lyman through an unlocked door, according to Oak Park police. The offender pulled the ignition cylinder from the steering column in an attempt to remove the vehicle.

A man was reportedly on a platform blocking the exit ramp Sept. 18 around 5:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Boulevard, and when a River Forest resident tried to exit, the man yelled and began to strike the River Forest resident in the face with a closed fist, which caused minor injuries to his nose and forehead, according to Oak Park police. The suspect is described as 30 years old, 6 feet tall, 170 pounds with black hair, a thin build and wearing a blue baseball cap, dark jacket and jeans. He left in an unknown direction.
Someone entered a 2004 Dodge Caravan on Sept. 19 by prying open the driver’s door window in the 100 block of Chicago, according to Oak Park police. Once inside, the offender defeated the ignition with the use of a screwdriver, which was left in the car, but the car didn’t start.
Someone attempted to gain entry to a garage Sept. 18 in the 800 block of North Taylor through the service door by using a pry type tool, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss due to damage is $200.
Odell Smith, age 36 of the 200 block of South 11th Avenue, Maywood, was arrested Sept. 19 for theft of a bicycle he was riding in the 700 block of Lexington, according to Oak Park police. The bike was identified as a bike that had just been taken from a garage.
Someone gained entry to the 2005 blue Dodge Grand Caravan on Sept. 19 in the 100 block of Erie Court by prying the passenger side door window open, according to Oak Park police. Once inside, the offender ransacked the interior and removed a black leather wallet containing miscellaneous cards and cash. The offender also damaged the steering column and ignition in an attempt to steal the car. The estimated loss due to damage is $655.
An Oak Park resident reported a man put his hands on him Sept. 19 and forced him to sit on a bench because he believed the Oak Park man spit on his shoes in the 100 block of North Marion, according to Oak Park police. The suspect is described as 30 to 40 years old, 6 feet tall, thin build, brown hair, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white Adidas shoes. He was last seen eastbound on Lake with a woman, 30 to 35 with long blond hair and a black shirt.
Someone broke the windshield and driver’s side window glass between Sept. 19 and 20 of a 2000 green Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 1100 block of Wesley with a piece of concrete, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss is $300.
Someone damaged a 4’x6’ double pane window glass, white curtains, ceiling and a picture frame between Sept. 17 and 20 with an unknown type of projectile that was recovered on the floor inside the residence in the 1100 block of North Ridgeland. The estimated loss to damage is $2,100.
Thomas E. Tiknius, age 43 of the 4000 block of south Clinton Avenue, Stickney, was arrested Sept. 20 for unlawful solicitation in the roadway in the 700 block of South Avenue, Forest Park, according to Oak Park police. He was processed and released on bond.
A man took a red snow blower Sept. 20 from a garage in the 800 block of North Hayes, according to Oak Park police. The man was 45 to 50 years old, 220 pounds, wearing a gray button down shirt with a patch on the chest, dark blue jeans and an dark baseball hat. The estimated loss is $750.
Someone entered a green Chevy C1500 between Sept. 18 and 19 in the 1200 block of North Harlem through an unlocked driver’s door, according to Oak Park police. A duffle bag containing cash and medicine was taken and the estimated loss is $50.
Someone removed a black/white/red Diamondback bicycle between Sept. 15 and 20 from a rear yard in the 800 block of South Scoville, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss is $300.
Someone removed a maroon 2004 Jeep Liberty by Unknown means Sept. 20 from the 300 block of North Boulevard, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss is $4,000.
