Morton East H.S. Student Fatally Shot In Cicero: School

The 17-year-old was killed after class dismissal Thursday, according to the school.

CICERO, IL — A 17-year-old student at Morton East High School was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon following dismissal. According to the school, the incident occurred near 21st Street and 59th Avenue, which is about one-half mile from the campus.

"We are actively working with the Cicero Police Department as part of the ongoing investigation," the school posted on its website.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the deceased as Johan Adaree-Sanchez, of Cicero. He died at Loyola University Medical Center following the shooting.

School officials said they are aware of "inaccurate" reports regarding the incident circulating on social media.

"We ask that everyone please refrain from sharing unverified information at this time and rely only on official updates," the school posted.

Morton East has an active crisis team available on campus for "students, staff and classmates who may be impacted by this incident."
