The Positive Youth Development (+PYD) Opioid Task Force is hosting a Candlelight Vigil and International Overdose Awareness Day on Wednesday, August 31st. Please save the date; more details will be shared on the +PYD Facebook page. International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind. The day’s events include discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy.

School Supply Drive and Backpack Pick-up Day

Youth Services is hosting its Annual School Supply Drive and Backpack Pick Up Event! Donations of school supplies are being accepted until August 5th and can be sent directly to Oak Park Township through our AmazonWish List at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/71PY5B4P85VL?ref_=wl_share

Our goal is to fill 200 backpacks to be picked up for free by youth at our Backpack Pick Up Event on Friday, August 12th 4pm-6pm in Oak Park Township’s parking lot at 105 S. Oak Park Avenue. In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, the Backpack Pick Up Event will have resources and giveaways from community partners, snacks, music, and even a barber giving away free back to school haircuts! We cannot wait to see everyone on August 12th!

Tuesday Meals Now Available at Senior Services

Announcing a new 3-pack meal pick-up on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for older adults through the Oak Park and River Forest Townships Senior Services Center. Call 708-725-9129 by the previous Thursday to pre-order. The new meal pick-up includes: 1 fresh hot meal, 1 fresh cold (deli sandwich or salad) meal, 1 frozen meal, and milk. We are still coordinating a weekly meal pick-up of 5 frozen meals on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The suggested donation is $1.50 per meal.

Caregiver Support Group

If you care for an individual age 60 and older, or for an individual with disabilities, the Oak Park and River Forest Townships Senior Services Caregiver Support Group can assist you in some of your caregiving needs. We typically meet twice monthly from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; the next dates are July 7th, 22nd, August 12th and 26th. Memory Café

The Memory Café, held on the third Tuesday of each month, is a free program designed for individuals living with memory loss to have a safe space in the community to connect and enjoy recreational and educational opportunities. Care partners and family members are also welcome. Please join us on Tuesday, July 19th and August 16th at 2:00 p.m. via zoom. To register, please call 708-383-8060 or email memorycafe@oakparktownship.org. Presented with support from River Forest Public Library and Oak Park Public Library.

Super Seniors Event on July 18th

On Monday, July 18th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a DMV “Super Seniors Event” at the River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison Street. Please call Kristin Norman, Activity Assistant, at 708-383-8060 to register.

Transportation Services provides rides to & from Oak Park Farmers’ Market

Oak Park and River Forest residents may call 708-383-4806 to request a ride to or from Oak Park’s Farmers’ Market. Our pick-up location is Elmwood Avenue and Lake Street, and the suggested donation is $1.00 per ride, wheelchair lifts are in the bus.
