'Observations' Exhibit Features Artwork Inspired by Urban Life

The exhibit runs from Oct. 5 to Nov. 15.

Concordia University Chicago presents “Observations,” an art show that is free and open to the public. In this exhibition, Concordia-Chicago professor of art BettyAnn Mocek shares her latest drawings, mixed-media works, prints, photographs and video. The exhibit runs from October 5 to November 15 at the University’s Ferguson Art Gallery.

“Observations,” a one-person show, will feature approximately 40 new works of art inspired by Mocek’s sabbatical in New York City. But, she says, the works are not about New York per se—Mocek captures the life and the pulse of the American city and its people. The pieces address both abstract and concrete themes, such as perspective, rhythm, ambiguity and disorientation. Mocek will be branching into two new media, photography and video, for the first time in this show.

“These are not your typical over-the-couch skyline scenes,” said Mocek. “I hope you can smell the city—any city—in this show, and feel the pace, the energy and truths these works attempt to reveal.”

There will be an artist’s talk in McCormick Hall, directly next to the gallery, on Sunday, October 11 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception until 4 p.m.
