Proposed Oak Park Recreation Center: Open House Planned Aug. 12

OAK PARK, IL—The Parks Foundation of Oak Park and the Park District of Oak Park are hosting a second virtual community open house at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12 to provide more information about a proposed community recreation center.

According to village officials, this proposed facility will allow the Park District of Oak Park to extend services to Oak Park’s diverse population, reach under-served residents and help strengthen our community bonds.

It would be located on Madison Avenue east of Ridgeland Avenue. The one-acre property site, which was donated to the Parks Foundation, would serve as an anchor to an area of Oak Park that can benefit from revitalization.

The project would be largely funded with grants and charitable donations. In addition, the operating costs of the facility would be funded by user fees, village officials said.

In the upcoming meeting, the Park District will discuss how it has incorporated feedback from the community into the evolving design for the project, as well as share the preferred planning strategy and preliminary interior and exterior renderings.
