Elmwood Park, IL - Tuesday, Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago, visited the Elmwood Park Public Library to speak to a local group about ways to maintain public interest in libraries in an increasingly digitalized world.
“Local libraries are the backbone of neighborhoods and communities because they provide excellent places to learn and bring others closer together,” said Lilly. “These spaces offer so much more than we remember them to be, with a vast array of subjects to study endlessly.”

Lilly spoke to the Friends of the Library in Elmwood Park group to assess the needs of local public libraries as well as discuss ongoing budget negotiations in Springfield. As part of the discussion, Lilly also asked residents their thoughts on state and local matters so she can work to better represent them.
“Libraries deserve public commendation for their role in helping shape some the minds of our future leaders,” said Lilly. “As Chairwoman of the Museum, Arts and Cultural Enhancement Committee, I believe that libraries preserve our cultural pasts and histories and should remain free and open to all.”
