Tommy Schaefer Wants Baby Stella's Health Kept Secret from the Court
Stella receives regular check ups in the Bali prison where she lives with her mother, Heather Mack.
Tommy Schaefer, Heather Mack’s boyfriend, reportedly told a Cook County court-appointed attorney he doesn’t want information about baby Stella’s health to be shared with the court.
The attorney, Peter Schmiedel, has been reporting to a Cook County judge with updates from Stella’s regular checkups from inside the Indonesian prison where Stella will live with Mack until she’s 2, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Attorneys said Mack doesn’t want Schmiedel to stop delivering Stella’s health reports to the court, the Tribune reports.
Stella was born March 17, 2015, in a Sanglah hospital near the prison in Bali. Indonesian law lets a child stay with its mother in prison for two years after birth.

The justices judging the case of the Bali murder of Mack’s mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, said Mack’s 10-year sentence for premeditated murder was lenient because of Stella.
Schaefer was sentenced to 18 years. He described during the trial how he flew to Bali to meet Mack while she and her mom were vacationing at the St. Regis Hotel in August 2014. He said he hit von Wiese-Mack with a heavy metal bowl after she called him the “n-word,” strangled him and threatened to kill the unborn baby. Von Wiese-Mack’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase in the trunk of a taxi outside the hotel.
Mack has said she’s learning how to cook and clean in prison, while also taking care of Stella with the help of other inmates.
