Bednarcik FCS Club Creates Meal with Help of Trained Chef
Fun Cooking and Sewing Club offers students who are not enrolled in family consumer science a chance to cook.
The following was provided by Laura Nemetz:
Bednarcik Jr. High FCS (Fun Cooking and Sewing) Club participants worked side by side last Monday with Mr. Paul LaDouceur, trained chef/former Bednarcik parent, to create a delicious meal including stuffed mushrooms, beef stroganoff and the famous New York Black and White Cookies.
Ten sixth and seventh grade students prepared the food from scratch, served and enjoyed the meal and had the kitchen labs back in shape in a matter of two hours.
Mr. LaDouceur has been assisting the students with this activity each semester for two years now.
The club, which meets once a week for 1 ½ hours, allows students who have not had the chance to participate in any of the Family Consumer Science classes offered during the regular school day as well as those who just love to cook and sew to enjoy their interests.
As many as 30 students have participated in this after school activity. Mrs. Nemetz, FCS Teacher at Bednarcik offers two sessions each year to try to give as many students the opportunity to participate as possible. The past two years, Mrs. Linda Long has volunteered her time to assist Mrs. Nemetz with the students .
