OSWEGO, IL — Two people charged with burglary have been accused of stealing more than $6,000 from a 7-Eleven store in Oswego on Thursday, police said.

A few hours after the burglary, Dante M. Medford, 29, and Empress V. Stewart, 20, were apprehended at an Oswego hotel, where the man was involved in a disturbance, officials said.

Oswego officers were first dispatched at around 3:17 a.m. Thursday for a theft in progress at the convenience store at 244 E. About three hours later, police were dispatched on a separate assignment at AmericInn, 1050 Douglas Road, after a caller reported a man yelling at the front desk staff.

When officers arrived, they recognized the man as the one from 7-Eleven based on the store's surveillance footage. Police also located the woman matching the description as well as the stolen merchandise, officials said.

Both suspects were taken into custody. Medford, of the 13000 block of South State Street in Riverdale, and Stewart, of the 4800 block of West 24th Street in Cicero, were both charged with three felony counts of burglary. The man is also facing one misdemeanor count of obstructing or resisting arrest.

Medford and Stewart were taken to the Kendall County jail to await pre-trial hearings on Friday afternoon, according to jail logs.
