Community Services Fair & Autism Expo March 9 at Oswego High

The 10th Annual Community Services Fair has joined forces with the Autism Expo Saturday March 9, 9 a.m-noon at Oswego High School. This free event for Kane and Kendall County residents is sponsored by the Kendall County Special Education Cooperative (KCSEC), VALEES and Illinois Next Steps. Parents, caregivers, educators, administrators, social workers, community members, prospective employers and individuals with disabilities are invited.


 


“Representatives from community agencies, colleges and advocacy groups will be exhibiting and describing their services, application process and eligibility requirements,” says Pam Schweitzer, one of the organizers from KCSEC and a Next Steps volunteer. Presentations include “Transition Planning: Working Toward Working” by Vicki Niswander and Sue Brown at 9:30 a.m. and “Easy Home Behavior Interventions” by Bridget Corbet at 10:45 a.m.

More than 50 exhibitors will represent a variety of services and interests, including independent living, financial planning, adaptive recreation, transportation, education and training, accessible equipment, service dogs, advocacy services, vocational rehabilitation services, support groups, and job placement services. There will also be a few student-run businesses showcasing their products and selling cups of gourmet coffee and tea. The exhibit area is open from 9-noon.Additionally, both Spanish/English and sign language interpreters will be on site.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the morning and a light complimentary breakfast will be available. Oswego High School is located at 4250 Rt. 71 in Oswego (near the intersection of Rt. 34 and Rt. 71). Entrance to the school cafeteria is via Door 11 on the west side.
