Letter to the Editor: Oswego/Montgomery Relay Needs Your Help to Fight Cancer

Send your letter to the editor to steven.jack@patch.com

When I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast cancer in August of 2009, it was the support and help of my family, friends, and the American Cancer Society that helped me survive this disease.

Today, I want to help others in the fight against cancer. That’s why I will be walking the survivors’ lap, sharing in the Luminaria Ceremony and forming a team to participate at the Relay For Life of Oswego/Montgomery on June 24-25, 2011.

I invite you to learn more about getting involved with this life-changing event. Relay For Life is a 12-hour overnight fundraiser where teams campout and take turns walking the Oswego High School track to symbolize how cancer never sleeps.

We celebrate the lives of our cancer survivors with a survivor victory lap and reception, remember those we have lost with a candlelit Luminaria Ceremony, and fight back against a disease that has taken too much from too many. Please register for the Relay For Life of Oswego/Montgomery as a participant, team captain or cancer survivor at www.relayforlifeosmo.com

The American Cancer Society continues to be an active part of our community offering numerous free programs including Road to Recovery, which offers transportation for patients to and from their cancer treatments and Look Good…Feel Better which teaches women going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image.

The American Cancer Society also offers other free resources such as wigs, cancer support groups and tobacco control programs in addition to funding lifesaving research. The Relay For Life of Oswego/Montgomery has a goal of raising $105,000 to help fund the mission of the American Cancer Society.

For more information on how to become involved in Relay For Life of Oswego/Montgomery, please call Maggie Kluck at the American Cancer Society at 630-879-9009 or visit our website at www.relayforlifeosmo.com
