Letter to the Editor: Volunteers Deserve Thanks for Park District Easter Events

If Mother Nature wasn’t going to do it, we were!

The Oswegoland Park District had a wonderful time marking Spring with eggs and bunnies (recently).  Lunch with the Bunny had 125 happy celebrants at Pearce’s on April 20.  The next day, Flashlight Egg Hunt hit a new record with 240 kids heading out in the dark in search of over 3000 colored eggs.

It was giggles galore on both occasions.  I was so thankful for Oswego’s Chipotle restaurant which gave a free kid’s meal to every kid with a flashlight and to the newest shop downtown, Garden Faire.  Garden Faire gave hundreds of candy filled eggs to the hunt.

Neither event could have been offered without the support of the community volunteers.  We had volunteers checking people in, handing out prizes, and giving goodie bags.  Over 10 teen volunteers offering assistance to younger kids in the dark park that night.  What a great community to live in when friendly people put on a smile and help others enjoy themselves!  Thank you volunteers, Chipotle and Garden Faire!

If anyone else wants to join the volunteering fun, we have PrairieFest around the corner and could use the help!  Give me a call at (630) 554-4425 or email me at kvest@oswegolandpd.org.  Now here’s hoping the weather catches up with calendar this Spring!
