OHS Prank Leads to Felony Charges

Two students facing counts of disorderly conduct and conspiracy.

Two  students might find out the hard way that an old-school prank may land them in a lot more trouble than they would have thought.

Two 16-year-old girls from Montgomery were charged with felony disorderly conduct and conspiracy after police said they pulled a fire alarm at OHS at about 12:08 p.m. Monday. The alarm caused several  vehicles to rush to the scene only to find no fire or emergency.

Detective Rob Sherwood, Oswego police media relations officer, said there are 13 different classifications for disorderly conduct—one of them being a felony charge for a suspect who knowingly transmits a false alarm when "there is no reasonable ground for making the call or transmission and further knows that the call or transmission could result in the emergency response of any public safety agency."

“The disorderly conduct is a Class 4 felony, as is the conspiracy charge,” Sherwood said.

Conspiracy was charged because the girls had planned beforehand to pull the alarm, according to Sherwood.

Both students were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center and appeared before a Kendall County Juvenile judge.
