Prairie Point Splashpad Could Be Ready in June

Poor weather has delayed construction on Phase 2.

Parts of the second phase of construction at , including the much-awaited splashpad, could be ready for public use in June.

Oswegoland Park District Executive Director Bill McAdam said this week that poor weather has delayed construction on the splashpad, ballfield lights, washrooms and picnic shelter.

"We're working a little slower than we would have liked," McAdam said.

Lights on two of the park's four ballfields are up and are awaiting workers from ComEd to inspect them and turn on the power. As for the splashpad, McAdam crews are currently laying underground piping and will soon begin concrete work.

Once the concrete is poured, the water features will be installed. The splashpad will be treated like any other playground amenity and will be free of charge for all visitors to the park, McAdam said.

The latest work will complete the second phase of park construction. The third phase of the $1.5 million project likely won't begin this year and could include paving of parking lots, lights for the two other ballfields, landscaping work and concessions.

"We'll need to wait until there is a funding mechanism before that work begins," McAdam said.

Meanwhile, the Park District is planning its dedication of the skate park at Prairie Point with its set for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21. There will be live music from local bands, demos from skaters and BMXers, skate clinics, and giveaways from skate vendors. All ages welcome.
