PrairieFest Hosting Carnival Event for Families of Children with Special Needs

Families who have a child with special needs are welcome to attend the modified carnival on Thursday afternoon.

Carnivals can be loud, colorful and have an overabundance of sensory information for anyone.

But for those with special needs, those things can be overwhelming.

For the first time, the Oswego PrairieFest will feature an afternoon of carnival rides specifically for families of those with special needs.

The event, called Me Too @ PrairieFest is on Thursday, June 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

"I'm really excited about proud of this event," said executive director of the Park District Rich Zielke. "It's an opportunity for individuals with special needs to enjoy the carnival free of other festival participants."

The event will see rides slowed down, music turned off and lights turned down, said Zielke.

"Depending on the disability the folks are facing, this can really change their experience," said Zielke. "We welcome all of those families to join us Thursday."
