Rebecca Hejtmanek

25 Years in District 308, 32 Years in Education

“Becky Hejtmanek has shared her passion for fitness and sport with thousands of students at Boulder Hill School. She has been instrumental in developing meaningful physical education programing and continually explores innovative ways to engage students in physical activity while creating cross-curricular learning opportunities. Becky continues to be the driving force behind almost all of the extracurricular activities that go on at our school; she has taken a lead role as the building mentor, in creating a Student Senate, facilitating our after school sports programs, orchestrating elaborate field day events, performing at Boulder Hill Idol, coordinating our food drive and organizing countless fundraisers that support our school community. Her enthusiasm and high standards will most certainly leave a positive and lasting impact.”

Becky Hejtmanek began her 25-year District 308 career as a physical education instructor at Oswego High School where she worked from 1974 to 1979. Deciding to temporarily leave full-time teaching to start her family, Becky worked as an instructional aide, substitute teacher and playground supervisor at Yorkville Grade School for seven years. With her new elementary experience and a desire to return to full-time employment, Becky was re-hired for the elementary physical education teacher position at Boulder Hill in 1993, where she remained until her retirement.

Becky served as Oswego High School’s coach for the school’s first girls varsity basketball and softball teams. She spent three years coaching the basketball team. During her five years coaching softball, her 1977 team was the first girls’ team to advance to sectionals.

In addition to those two high school sports, Becky also coached girls bowling for a year at Oswego High School. Once she made the move to Boulder Hill, she instructed elementary intramurals for 20 years. In addition to athletics, Becky also started the Boulder Hill Student Senate and served as its sponsor for 10 years.

“I have so many fond memories at both the high school and at Boulder Hill,” Becky recalled. “Coaching gave me some wonderful experiences with high school athletes and now the Student Senate at Boulder Hill has provided some fond and inspiring moments of how caring children can be. I also have fond memories of the many wonderful teachers with whom I worked at Boulder Hill and Oswego High School. It has been a remarkable 25 years. I will certainly miss teaching.”

Traveling, playing tennis and spending time with her grandchildren is how Becky plans to spend her retirement. “And who knows what else I will get involved in,” she said.
