Palos Park Police To Check On Seniors During Frigid Temps

PALOS PARK, IL — As temperatures are expected to plummet to the single digits with 30-below-zero wind chills expected through Wednesday of next week, Palos Park police will be performing senior well-being checks.

The Palos Park Police Department’s “You Are Not Alone” program that is designed to make sure seniors are okay during extreme weather and power outages. Officers also check on seniors during the week.

“Officers will drop by homes of seniors on the checklist, making sure seniors are warm enough and that they’re not hurt,” said Chief Joe Miller, of the Palos Park Police Department. “We also worry about seniors taking a fall in this weather.”

During extreme weather, officers will check on seniors several times over 24 hours. Seniors can may also have well-being contact checks via phone with Palos Park police staff. Officers will also visit older residents not signed up, but referred by a friend or neighbor who feels they may be struggling in the cold.
